Tone Chaser Tuesday - Episode #7: "Private" by The Neighbourhood

We've got a guest host on today's edition of Tone Chaser Tuesday. Phil Cambra used the Artifakt Lo-Fi Elements, Encounter Ambient Delay + Reverb, Pathways Reverb & Tremolo, and Atlas Compressor to recreate the moody tone on the opening guitar riff of "Private" by The Neighbourhood. Guitarist Zach Abels is known for his delicious mixture of soaring ambience with warm and intimate lo-fi tones.  This track from the band's latest release, (((((ultraSOUND)))))+ is a beautiful example of Abels' approach to guitar textures.

 

Tone Chaser Tuesday - Episode #6: "Gimme Shelter" by The Rolling Stones

In this episode Nick Garrity uses the L.A. Lady Overdrive and Pathways Reverb & Tremolo to replicate Keith Richards' rhythm guitar tone from "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones. Tone Chaser Tuesday - Episode #5: "How Many More Times" by Led Zeppelin

This week, Nick uses the L.A. Lady Overdrive, Spectrum Intelligent Filter, and Collider Delay + Reverb to recreate the wah-wah and stereo fuzz tones from "How Many More Times" by Led Zeppelin.

The key to capturing this sound was the L.A. Lady’s ability to split the guitar signal into two separate channels and send a different fuzz or overdrive sound to each stereo output. These stereo capabilities allowed Nick to mimic the double-tracked, hard-panned guitar tones heard on the original recording. Jimmy Page originally achieved this effect by pairing a Maestro FZ-1 fuzz pedal on one side of the stereo field with an overdriven Supro Coronado 1690T amplifier on the other.

Page’s wah-wah sound was recreated using the Spectrum Intelligent Filter’s “Classic Wah” filter controlled via an expression pedal. The natural ambience of the original recording came from the Collider Delay + Reverb’s Room reverb.

Tone Chaser Tuesday - Episode #4: "Jeremy's  Storm" by Tame Impala

Nick replicates the mega-squashed guitar tone in the opening bars of Tame Impala's instrumental exploration, "Jeremy's Storm." Guitarist/songwriter/producer Kevin Parker is famous for using extreme amounts of compression, going as far as using two compressor pedals in series. Nick takes advantage of the Atlas Compressor's ability to internally stack two compressor effects to capture Parker's signature tone.  Then as a finishing touch, he throws in a dab of chorus from the Gemini Chorus. If you like this tone, search for  "Jeremy's Storm Compressor" and "Jeremy's Storm Chorus" in the Neuro Editor and load them directly to your Atlas Compressor and Gemini Chorus

 

 

Tone Chaser Tuesday - Episode #3: "Baby Blue" by Badfinger

This Badfinger classic found new life during one of the greatest needle-drop moments in television history: the final scene of the Breaking Bad finale. Nick discovered a surprisingly effective way to recreate the song’s subtle Leslie-style rotating speaker effect and overdriven guitar tone by pairing the Collider Delay + Reverb’s Oil Can Delay with our ZIO Analog Front End + Boost. It’s a sound that needs to be heard.

 

 

Tone Chaser Tuesday - Episode #2: "Pink Maggit" by Deftones

Our man Nick loves a challenge! In this episode, he recreates the fuzzed-out, atmospheric guitar tone from the "Pink Maggit" by Deftones. The Aftershock Bass Distortion delivers the massive fuzz tones, while the Nemesis Delay ADT and its Tape engine — inspired by the classic Echoplex — create the slow, saturated delay textures.

The pilot episode of Tone Chaser Tuesday! In this demo, Nick replicate the guitar tone in the 38 Special track, "Hold On Loosely"–a southern rock classic! Nick uses the L.A. Lady Overdrive's Tube Screamer engine to create the subtle, yet beefy overdrive sound and the Collider Delay + Reverb's Oil Can engine to create a nice chorusing effect that mimics the double tracked, hard-panned guitars.
